Queen city of salt & fog

You found Her

A hidden gem surrounded by ancient redwood forests, cradled by Humboldt Bay, California’s most pristine bay. Home to
artists and makers, sea captains and story tellers, adventurers and ghosts from the past.

This is Eureka. You found her.

Thank you, Lonely Planet for naming the Redwood Coast the number 1 travel destination.

The Lonely Planet travel team has picked California’s towering Redwood Coast as its number one for 2018. They cite its ability to steal your time (and cell signal) as intoxicating, its real life wonders – the last 100ft of redwood growth marks the 50 years since Redwood National Park was established – that can never be reproduced on screen, even in blockbusters like Jurassic Park, E.T. and Star Wars. This year, to mark their 100th anniversary, Save The Redwoods League are offering free entry to more than 40 state parks every second Saturday of the month.

Old town is recognized as one of the best in the west

Citing our city's commitment to the arts, The Discoverer Magazine and Blog recently recognized Old Town as one of the trendiest neighborhoods on the West Coast. Itching to check out our art scene? Come out on the first Saturday of every month for Arts Alive, where over 80 galleries, museums, and cafes hold exhibits. We also have a staggering number of murals with even more being added during our first Street Art Festival in August, 2018. Whatever your style, Old Town Eureka is sure to delight.

Arts & culture

"Surrounded by the redwood curtain, the Eureka Cultural Arts District features a wide variety of expressions – everyone can find something to love (and can say “Eureka!” when they find it), from murals to movies, theater to traditional crafts, galleries to historical museums, fine dining to great bagels. Skirting Humboldt Bay, the mild climate encourages walking and biking tours of public art, fine chocolate makers, local breweries, galleries, museums, artist studios, cafés, and organic ice cream.

Every month, hundreds converge on Old Town and Downtown for Eureka’s art walk, First Saturday Night Arts Alive! Visitors can patronize more than 75 open cultural sites and businesses displaying artworks or hosting performances. Musicians, jugglers, clowns, crafts vendors, politicians, and community activists line the streets to reach out to passersby. At certain times of the year, crowds of people gather to celebrate the Redwood Coast Music Festival, Taste of Main Street, Summer Concerts, Tuba Christmas, Woofstock, the Perilous Plunge, and more." - Visit California
