Grab your shovels and your buckets, the 24th Annual Sand Sculpture Festival is almost here!
This fundraiser for Friends of the Dunes will take place on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the northern end of the Samoa Drag Strip. Come play in the sand for a good cause!
Teams may sign up to build a sculpture and compete for cash prizes. The registration fee is $20 for teams of 6 or less and $25 for teams of more than 6. Register on-site between 10 a.m. and noon, or register early at friendsofthedunes.org/sandsculpturefestival for a discounted early-bird registration fee.
Award categories include: Best of Show, People’s Choice, Staff Pick, Most Dedicated Diggers, Best Youth Sculptor, and the coveted Golden Shovel which will be awarded for the best sculpture by one of our Business Partners!
The best time to view sculptures is from 2 to 4 p.m. and awards will be announced shortly after 3 p.m. This event is free for spectators, but a $1 to $5 sliding scale donation is encouraged to support Friends of the Dunes and our free education programs. Every dollar donated gets you a people’s choice flag to vote for your favorite sculpture. Bring your wallet and appetite, food vendors will be on site! Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged.

4TH OF JULY FESTIVAL – FULL OF FAMILY FUN!
Eureka, California – Eureka Main Street is planning a day full of family fun at the 4th of July Festival. The Eureka Main Street 4th of July Festival, is scheduled from 10a.m.-5 p.m. on
Thursday, July 4th in historic Old Town, Eureka.
The festival spans five city blocks along Second Street. Vendor booths will feature a wide variety of foods, crafts, commercial items, fine art and community groups getting the word out about their organizations. There will be classic cars, electric vehicle car show, kids activities, fire trucks, horse & carriage rides, speeder card rides (1st & E Street), Madaket Bay Cruises and much more. No dogs or smoking, please.

Join us for the second annual Eureka Street Art Festival Block Party! This year's festival will take place in Downtown Eureka along the 6th and 7th Street corridor between C and H Streets. Artists from around the world and around the corner will cover the neighborhood in murals and street art.
The Block Party will feature 3 beer gardens, a kid zone, live music, local food, and demonstrating artists. Come out to celebrate the completion of the murals throughout Downtown, and watch the artists add the finishing touches.
This event is free and open to the public. A list of artists, map, and more festival information will be posted when it is available.

Humboldt Botanical Garden invites you to celebrate the warmth of the holiday season with your friends and family at the annual Holiday Candlelight Walk on Saturday, December 15, 5 – 7 p.m.
We are excited to once again showcase the Garden on December 15th for our annual Holiday Candlelight Walk. After Thanksgiving, the Sun Valley Floral Farms Greenhouse will undergo its annual holiday makeover in preparation for this fun family event. Thousands of lights will decorate the Garden, as well as the greenhouse. Hundreds of luminaries will lead guests through the lower gardens. Inside the greenhouse families can enjoy complimentary cider and cookies while enjoying coloring activities, ornament making and more. Santa will be taking requests. Guests can roast marshmallows at a large bonfire near the greenhouse and will find refreshments for purchase, including hot chocolate, mulled wine, beer
On the second Saturday of every December, thousands of people line the streets of Eureka and delight at the evening spectacle of huge trucks adorned in holiday lights. A Eureka tradition for over 25 years, the Christmas convoys range in size from 50 to 100 big rigs.
The 18-wheelers stretching as long as 60 feet, including some with special parade additions that might be tacked on: bandstand platforms, dancing reindeer, flying fish, you name it. Some trucks have been covered in more than 40,000 lights, requiring three generators to run them.
Join in this Eureka tradition, and you'll never think of Jingle Bells in quite the same way again. The parade starts at 6 p.m. at Redwood Acres and goes to about 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, September 8, from 5PM to 7PM, fish fans will enjoy oysters, petrale sole, salmon, rock cod, calamari and albacore, grilled, broiled and fried. Guests will dive into “as much as they want and with all the fixin’s,” promises Event Coordinator Haider Ajina who added “our thanks to the Elks Lodge for their generosity in providing those fixin's as well as their facility.” Ajina also thanked Pacific Seafoods for providing much of the main course...the essential fish.
No-host cocktails will be available at 4PM as guests have the opportunity to bid on a variety of silent auction items before enjoying their dinners. This event, an enthusiastically anticipated fixture on the Rotary calendar, will be held at The Lodge in Eureka, 445 Herrick Avenue. Tickets are $35 each for adults, $12 each for children twelve years old and younger, and can be purchased from any Southwest Eureka Rotarian and at the door.
This year's Fish Feed will provide funding for the Rotary Club of Southwest Eureka Foundation, club projects and scholarship programs. “Our guests will enjoy a great time, a tasty dinner with friends and neighbors and a fine opportunity to help us improve lives in our community. Service Above Self is the Rotary motto,” Morgan said. “And our fish are giving their all for the greater good.”
It may seem a little early to you but our staff is already hard at work planning Get Out and Play Day 2018. It will be our 5th Annual and our biggest and best event yet so put it on your calendar now and plan to attend.
